Welcome barbecue for international students

The Central Queensland Multicultural Association (CQMA) recently hosted a welcome barbecue for international students of Central Queensland University in Rockhampton.

CQMA president Lavenia James and secretary Ataus Samad and the Association members were tireless in their efforts to welcome CQU students from many countries to the region.

The Association committee would like to thank all who contributed to making this a wonderful event, including CQU staff from the International and Facilities offices.

Ms James said that, in the absence of an International Students' body, CQMA was keen to enable the students to become associate members (free of charge) "in the hope that they will feel welcome and also feel at home away from home".

"This is an opportunity to provide the students with a sense of belonging and increase their networks," she said.

"Also, we would like to thank Mary McLeod and her team at CQU Student Services for being co-sponsors of the event".
