Lovers of all things historical will find an upcoming bus tour around the city's archival hotspots an event not to be missed.

A series of exciting exhibitions has been planned by local libraries, and a historical society, to mark Queensland Heritage Week, which runs this week from May 13 to May 20.

To make the event extra special, a bus tour will be incorporated into a day of viewing and exploring the city's historical exhibitions on Sunday May 20, from 10am-4pm.

Utilising the theme, ‘The Rocky Spirit', an exhibition will be launched at each of the venues - the Rockhampton & District Historical Society; Central Queensland University Library; and Rockhampton City Council's libraries- focusing on different aspects, such as mateship, resilience, and larrikinism, reflected in Rockhampton's unique spirit.

"Participants will discover 3 important historical collections in the city, with some fabulous interpretive exhibitions about Rockhampton's past," said Cr Rose Swadling, Council's Community Services Committee Chair.

"The exhibitions showcase the depth of local historical resources available for researchers and family historians. Council's libraries will reflect on some of the city's individual characters, local government - and even goat racing, in their exhibition."

John Fletcher, the President of the Rockhampton & District Historical Society, has said the RDHS exhibition examining social pursuits of locals through the ages, promised to be a fascinating overview of work, play, sport, improvisation, and volunteer experiences of residents.

"The exhibition will be the first for the year for the society, and will highlight the society's special collections. We are delighted to be involved with the collaborative venture with the region's libraries."

"The extensive collection of the Capricornia Central Queensland Collection, Central Queensland University Library, was handpicked to uncover material relating to resilience," said Graham Black, Director of the CQU Division of Library Services.

"These include natural and man-made disasters in the city's history, as well as the resilience of local businesses, groups and individuals. A variety of materials will be on display highlighting the rich diversity of the collection."

The CQU Library display (in the reading room) will continue to be on show until June 18.

Each exhibition will feature a special launch at each venue, with refreshments  provided throughout the day. The cost will be $10 per person with bookings essential as numbers will be limited.
