Speakers Visit to Address Family Stress

Central Queenslanders involved in helping people from rural, regional and remote communities can benefit from a major conference called 'Coping in the 21st Century - Town and Country'.

Conference organiser Caroline Cuckson, from Lifeline Central Queensland, said the event was a unique opportunity to interact with speakers from the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and Australia.

She said the speakers had experience in areas such as rural stress services, the farm as a family business and community education.

Ms Cuckson said the conference, an initiative of Lifeline CQ, would address the need for 'self-care' in response to the issues raised by a changing Australian society.

"We seek to examine and determine the effects of stress on families in the rural, regional and remote areas of Central Queensland," she said.

"All the speakers understand the difficulty of dealing with trauma .. participants in the conference will be able to learn and share their thoughts and experiences." The conference will be held on the weekend of May 2-3 at Central Queensland University. Registration queries can be directed to Judy at Lifeline CQ on 4922 7035.

This initiative is supported by the Faculty of Arts, Health and Sciences at CQU.
