Heather Nancarrow, Director of the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research was delighted this week to receive a cheque from students of Mackay State High School (MSHS), raised during a school celebration of International Women’s Day last week.

Funds raised by the students will be used towards the development of an educational fact sheet about ‘Dating Violence’ by the Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research at CQU.

Heather Nancarrow, Director of the Centre, thanked students at their weekly parade for their generous donation and applauded their commitment to working towards a more peaceful society.

Ms Nancarrow said that dating violence was regularly experienced by young adults and that development of the fact sheet would enable students to identify characteristics of unhealthy relationships as well as recognise qualities of a healthy relationship.

Peer Mediation Co-ordinator with MSHS, Cheryl Bryan, said that the development of this resource would provide students with a foundation of knowledge on which they could build strong and positive future relationships.
