For Professor Mummery, heading home is cold comfort

When Kerry Mummery revealed he was leaving the tropical city of Rockhampton to return to his former stamping ground in Canada, his friends at the University of Alberta bombarded him with recent news clippings.

The University of Alberta's host city - Edmonton - had just set new record as the coldest city in North America (at minus 46.1 C) - only Siberia was colder. In contrast, Rockhampton has been known at times to reach 46 degrees above zero. LINK HERE for Edmonton shatters cold record

Speaking at a farewell function this week, Professor Mummery said he had intended to stay in Australia for the rest of his career, but a dream job as Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at one of Canada's largest research-intensive universities changed his mind.

Kerry thanked his wife Chris, who has been established in a senior role in Rockhampton's health sector, for following his career move "yet again".

So it's back to the land of Huskie the Muskie (a giant fish beside the Trans Canada highway)!

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman thanked Kerry for his contribution to the University and presented him with something that will come in handy during the cold, wet weather - a Drizabone coat.
