About 150 primary school children will experience science at Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st August during the National Science Week. National Science Week is an annual event to promote and celebrate science. (Please see corresponding article about events in Mackay).
Students in Years 4 to 6 will take part in hands on activities which include the Moon in the Box experiment, Robot Soccer and Fingerprinting. They will also have the opportunity to experiment with friction, air pressure, electromagnets, electrical circuits and the senses.
Coordinator for the event and CQU biology lecturer Sheila Jeffery said 30 students are to attend each session with three sessions staged each day.
“The event has been designed to expose primary students to science and to enthuse and encourage curiosity through hands on interactive displays,” she said.
“With up to 15 activities planned at each session, the children are going to have a wonderful experience.
The Primary Science Experience is a cooperative venture involving the School of Biological & Environmental Sciences, School of Biomedical and Chemical Science, Faculty of Education and Creative Arts and the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems.
