Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Dimitri back for Carols by Candlelight 

Former Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music lecturer and regular graduation vocalist Dimitri Kopanakis will return to Rockhampton in December to be special guest for this year's Carols By Candlelight.

Dimitri will lead a cast of local singers, dancers and musicians in Rockhampton's premier Christmas event.

PhotoID:1811 Dimitri is well known to audiences through his work with the CQCM and his performances with many ensembles in the region.

He has performed nationally as both guest conductor and feature soloist with many of Australia's leading orchestras, and has worked in many operatic, theatrical and orchestral capacities.

His work in the music industry also includes performances with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Pops Orchestra and such productions as 'The Phantom of the Opera', Mariah Carey's World Tour, 'ENZSO' with Neil and Tim Finn, 'West Side Story', 'Les Mishrables', and 'Oliver!' just to name a few.

Dimitri, who has recently been touring with the 'Singing Waiters' franchise said he was looking forward to returning to Rockhampton to perform at Carols by Candlelight.

Organised by the Rockhampton City Council, Carols by Candlelight is Rockhampton's premier Christmas event, with the emphasis on family entertainment and community carol singing. Money raised from donations and merchandise sales go to local charities. This year's charities are Anglicare and RSL Care.

Carols by Candlelight is organised by the Rockhampton City Council and sponsored by The Morning Bulletin, SEA FM, and WIN Television.

Carols By Candlelight will be performed at the Rockhampton Music Bowl on Saturday December 11 from 7pm, Gates open at 5pm. Candles, programs, Santa hats and glow sticks, as well as food and drink, are available for sale on the night.
