Student overcomes struggle and helps others

CQU Bundaberg information technology student Dion Thomas is overcoming his struggle with Asperger's syndrome (a form of autism characterised by impaired social functioning, repetitive behaviour and obsession).

PhotoID:2353 Learning for Mr Thomas had been difficult throughout his life. Consequently, he spent his primary and high school years in a special school.

Nowadays, he's not only managing to attend university, with help from private tutoring, but is also helping tutor other adult learners as a volunteer at the Tom Quinn Community Centre.

The 31-year-old has been recognised with a special commendation in Queensland's Adult Learners' Week Awards Outstanding Learner category.
