Defence Force photographers brief students

Australian Defence Force photographers this week took time out of their busy schedule while in Rockhampton for Exercise Crocodile 03 to talk to Central Queensland University photography students.
Corporals Darren Hilder, Ashley Roach, and Jason Weeding discussed their experiences as photographers in the Army, which has seen them deployed around the world on operations.
CQU Lecturer Kate Ames said that this is the first time the University has offered the course in contemporary photomedia, and that the opportunity for students to interact with highly trained professionals was important in getting different perspectives.
"The Defence photographers gave a demonstration of some of their work, and were able to put them into context by discussing how they took the image, and some of the issues relating to working under intense pressure in extreme conditions," she said.
"Our students really appreciated the effort they put into coming to talk - they’re rarely been so attentive!" The soldiers also looked at some of the student’s work, providing feedback.
Journalism and Media Professor Alan Knight said that it was invaluable for students to interact with such first rate professionals who so readily gave their time to display and analyse their work.
