Local students do IT @ CQU Bundaberg

High school students from near and far are at CQU Bundaberg this week getting a glimpse of career options in information technology.
Fifteen year 11 students from Monto, Bundaberg, Kilkivan, Kingaroy, Nanango, Yandaran, Gin Gin and Blackbutt are spending five days attending stimulated lectures, tutorials and workshops. From digital movie making to broadcast journalism, computer programming to statistics it is an action packed four day event.
CQU Bundaberg’s Faculty of Informatics and Communication Sub Dean Angela Schlotzer said the program provides a realistic and valuable insight into the demands of tertiary study, the content of available courses at the local University and information about possible IT career paths.
“It is great to have people involved in the industry with real IT experience talk to the students about their occupations. For instance the local ABC online reporter, print media editor and a local reporter will be here and of course our own academic staff who have worked in their area of expertise,” Ms Schlotzer said.
“Another positive thing is the students build important networks with the other students from across the region who they could end up studying or even working alongside in the very near future.
DO IT @CQU is cost free, the students incurred no expenses for travel, accommodation or meals. The program is jointly funded by; CQU Faculty of Informatics and Communication, CQU Connections, the Informatics Industry Branch, the Department of Communication and Information, Local Government, Planning and Sport through the iSTAR project.
