Library Society tells of busy year

A great celebration of our successes! This is how CQU Mackay Library Society president Dr Wendy O’Brien described a recent special evening at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

PhotoID:54 The Library Society held their unique AGM last Thursday night, which not only included an AGM, but also special performances by Conservatorium of Music staff and students.

After the formalities of the evening were complete, attendees were treated to a number of wonderful performances. Music theatre students performed excerpts from their upcoming production of the musical “Chess” and the CQCM Jazz Orchestra lived up to their reputation as one of the best jazz orchestras around. The group, led by jazz lecturer Derrin Kerr, played old favourites including “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” for a truly appreciative audience.

The Library Society is a community group one of whose aims is to raise money for the CQU Mackay Library for the purchase of books and resources for all university students. Membership is just $15 per year.

PhotoID:55 Among their more popular activities are a monthly film evening and book club. Upcoming events for 2002 are a trivia night in May and a small film festival towards the end of the year.
