Citation for Conferring of the Honorary Award of Companion of the University - Peter Sawyer

After graduating with a Bachelor of Business and qualifying as an Accountant in 1974, Peter Sawyer became a Chartered Accountant in 1977.  This same year he became a Partner of the regional chartered accounting firm Ulton, which at the time was a small mainly tax practice.  Ulton has now grown to become one of regional Queensland's largest chartered accounting, business advisory and financial planning firms, with a team of 80 professionals, many of whom are CQUniversity graduates, with offices located in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

Through his role at Ulton and through his involvement with the Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce, Peter has been a mentor and advisor to both big and small business in the region.  Peter was instrumental in the re-establishment of the Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce, an institution that provides training, networking, communication and advocacy for small business in the Bundaberg area.

Since 1984, Peter has been a Director and Chairman of Bundaberg Friendly Society Medical Institute which owns and operates the Friendly Society Private Hospital which has grown to be a major contributor to Bundaberg's health infrastructure.  Under Peter's strong direction and leadership the Hospital has participated in the University's nursing education program, providing placements for undergraduate students and later employment for graduate nurses.

Through his involvement as a Director of Wide Bay Australia, Peter has contributed to the growth and wealth of many people, organisations and businesses in the Bundaberg and wider regions.  Peter has continuously encouraged the employment of CQUniversity graduates by Wide Bay Australia and has actively participated in supporting the University's Business and Accounting programs.

Peter Sawyer is a leading citizen of the Bundaberg region and is a keen supporter of the University.
