Quality Office hosts UK counterpart

Recently CQUality hosted a visitor from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK, Ms Cathy Shaw. Ms Shaw is the Acting Head of the Quality & Academic Standards Division.

Ms Shaw’s visit coincided with the monthly Quality Officers’ meeting (see photo), giving staff from various faculties and divisions the opportunity to gain a valuable insight into the Quality Assurance processes conducted at the University of Wolverhampton and the UK in general.

PhotoID:2897 “It was an absolute pleasure to meet up with a former Rocky girl and chat about our very similar institutions and the diverse quality paths taken by each University,” stated Quality Officer, Jo Miller.

Executive Director (Corporate Services), Mr Ken Window met with Ms Shaw over an informal morning tea and was interested to discuss, amongst other things, the University of Wolverhampton’s (UoW) history as a regional teaching-based institution.

Both CQU and UoW share similar developmental pathways and are both described as ‘new generation universities’ by their respective Government Agencies.

The Quality Office also invited key operators from throughout CQU to join Ms Shaw for lunch.

The University of Wolverhampton (UoW), as described by Cathy Shaw, has approximately 22,000 students based mainly on four local campuses that are within a 50km radius in the West Midlands and Shropshire.

By comparison to CQU, UoW has less overseas collaboration but in the main, overseas students are those entering the UK to study in Wolverhampton. UoW has an active Associate College Network working with a number of regional-based Further Education Colleges, with which the University delivers a number of programs.

“The quality environment amongst UK universities is somewhat different to that in Australia and the opportunity to network with a very driven operator in Cathy Shaw was a privilege that was appreciated by staff in the Quality Office,” stated Jo Miller.
