Sharing wisdom at the Learning and Teaching Showcase

By Associate Professor William Oates.

Nulloo Yumbah has in previous years been invited to ‘Welcome people to Country’ at CQU’s Learning and Teaching Showcase and has again been asked to share some wisdom and welcome participants next year.

Our approach to a ‘welcome’ is a little different as we offer an invitation to walk with others to ‘look after country’.

How does ‘wisdom’ sit with a welcome and invitation to look after country?.

I am convinced ‘wisdom’ has nothing to do with ‘cleverness’. Are universities too preoccupied with being ‘clever’ at the expense of being ‘wise’? What has ‘wisdom’ to do with learning and teaching?.

I think some hard questions need to be asked during this showcase ... so why not come along to the ‘welcome to country’ at the opening of the 2007 Learning and Teaching Showcase and hear the invitation to be wise in the education of people and to look after this country of ours.

CQU is inviting all educators in the region to the Showcase, 'The Scholarship of Learning and Teaching at CQU – Informing Practice – Sharing Wisdom', on February 22-23, 2007.

The Showcase will be held at CQU Rockhampton, with video links to other regional and Australian International Campuses.
