Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Three new clubs for CQU Gold Coast International Campus 

The CQU Student Association is currently in the process of forming three new clubs at the Gold Coast International Campus.

These clubs are: The CQU Gold Coast Social Club, the CQU Gold Coast Chess Club, and the CQU Gold Coast Recreational Sports Club. It is hoped that these new clubs will be up and running for Spring/Summer semester.

Tina Carile, the Learning Support Manager, has been actively encouraging students to start a social club and this is finally coming to fruition.

Over the coming weeks, the Student Association will also be developing links with existing local community and sporting clubs to negotiate affiliation memberships for Gold Coast students. These memberships will be subsidised by the Student Association. Chess enthusiaists have already begun in earnest with regular games being played in the library. There are now over 25 students signed up to join the Club. Two chess boards are set up in the library for students\' use, and two additional chess boards are available from the Student Associations\' Board Games Library.

The Student Association\'s Board Games library contains a range of games that can be taken out on day loans. These include Chess, Draughts, Scrabble, Chinese Checkers, Card games, Rummikub, and the hilarious new board game Worst Case Scenerio Survival Game.

The Student Association also has an Activities Fund allocated to the Gold Coast campus each year. These funds go towards providing the free tea and coffee service in the Student Lounge, student lunches, organised activities throughout the year, the End of Year Party and much more.

A Campus Student Executive Team is usually recruited at the beginning of each year, and these students assist is organising activities and utilising these available funds.
