CQU farewells international students

CQU Rockhampton has hosted a ceremony to farewell international students who are due to complete their programs and return to their home countries.

Seventeen full-degree students (five postgraduate and 12 undergraduate) and 21 Study Abroad/Exchange students attended the 'Going Home' ceremony.

PhotoID:906 Departing communication student Jessica Jarrett (PICTURED), from Chicago, said she had heard about CQU through her university's study abroad office.

She said she had chosen CQU for its affordability and opportunity for on-campus living.

"Studying abroad on my own and choosing not to do any external programs was a very difficult choice. However, everyone was very helpful and timely with his or her responses to my questions and that made things a lot easier for me," Ms Jarrett said.

"For example, I had some difficulties with my student visa and was really upset about the potential of not being able to study abroad. With the help of Lavenia James and the CQU International staff they went through my application piece by piece, found the problem and had it fixed the next day." Ms Jarrett said she had appreciated CQU's relatively small class sizes and the sense of community at the Capricornia College residential facility.

"I chose to study abroad to experience something different. Volunteering time in the CQU Community Relations department, taking courses at CQU and being part of an on-campus community have given me some of the best experiences Australia has to offer." While not studying, Ms Jarrett took the chance to visit some of Queensland's tourist areas and took part in social sports.

Despite injuring her arm in a soccer game recently, she's still leaving with fond memories of Rockhampton.
