Bachelor of Aviation senior lecturer Ron Bishop is proud that 21-year-old Heath has earned the role of Airline Operations Officer for Hamilton Island Air, the company which flew Oprah around the Great Barrier Reef.

The tropical island paradise will be a change of environment from Heath's former base in Bundaberg.

"Heath is on his way to fulfilling his dream of becoming the CEO of an airline by the time he is 30," Ron said.

"He has done great things in our aviation program and has helped on numerous marketing events including four days at the Amberley Airshow (2008) and four days at the Wide Bay Airshow (2009).

"I'm very proud of Heath.  He is a very good student that always helps out when needed. I'm looking forward to all the great things he will accomplish throughout his aviation career and am happy that I was a part of it."

Heath said he first heard about the Hamilton Island position thanks to an email from CQUniversity's Careers and Employment CareerHub.

He said the business-related components of his degree had been the best in terms of furthering his goal of entering airline operations and management.

Heath is completing the final few weeks of his degree and leaves for Hamilton Island right after his final exams. He hopes to attend his graduation later this year.

Mr Bishop said offers of aviation places are at 19 for this year's intake, up from 12 last year.

CQUniversity's Bachelor of Aviation degree is based at Bundaberg Campus but services students throughout Australia.
