Music student Amelia appeals to a (very) youthful market

CQUniversity music student Amelia Kase is building her performance skills and helping to entertain young children at the same time, as she volunteers at the C&K n'Gundanoo childcare centre on Rockhampton Campus.

"I go down between classes ... my mum works at the centre," Amelia said.

The Yeppoon resident says "they always ask lots of questions and the atmosphere is really good".

"It's helping to hone my performance skills ... I have to be on the ball and able to roll with whatever is going.

"If they lose interest I have to move on to another song and I have to grab their attention.

"You have to be really on your toes with improvisation, which is a large component of the Jazz and Popular Music specialisation that I'm studying as part of my Bachelor of Music."

Amelia is young enough to have grown up with the Wiggles but she was actually a bigger fan of Hi-5.

"I'd really love to be in Hi-5!" the first-year Uni student says.
