New property degree proves popular

Compiled by Rebecca Walker.

CQU’s new Bachelor of Property degree has attracted considerable attention from Queenslanders interested in becoming qualified valuers and learning more about property management and development.

Marketing and Promotions Manager of the Faculty of Business and Law, Darryl Parker, said there had been at least 146 enquiries since June last year and 43 students had enrolled.

Students comprised of 20 males and 23 females, most scattered along the coast from the Gold Coast to Cairns, with a few from western Queensland.

Mr Parker said the program was unique because it was one of only two such courses available by distance education in Australia, the other offered by the University of Western Sydney.

Mr Parker said the Queenlsand Government and the Australian Property Institute (API) asked CQU to create the program for people in the property industry in regional and rural centres.

“The program is designed mainly for those who are in the industry already who want to become registered valuers.”.

Mr Parker said the degree would become API accredited later in the year.
