CQU Rockhampton Open Day caters to prospective students

Some 40 activities, tours, seminars and information sessions occurred during CQU Rockhampton's Open Day, held in conjunction with the Central Queensland Multicultural Fair.

Thousands of dollars in prizes and activities enticed hundreds of prospective students to visit Faculty displays established throughout the campus. Education and Creative Arts, for example, ran a quiz and educational programs in Korean and Japanese. Engineering conducted a model boat contest (pictured) and supported Rail and train displays. Business and AHS had information booths and expert staff of hand, while the Faculty of Informatics and Communications invited guests to take part in flight simulation and V8 Supercar challenges.

"It was the first time we ran a program like this to gather information from and cater to prospective students who were looking for an overall introduction to CQU. We had families come up from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast as well as Gladstone and Rockhampton who signed up for Campus and library tours," explained Mike Donahue, Division of University Relations.

PhotoID:1427 CQU mentors led walks around campus every hour on the hour and Library tours every hour on the half hour. Dr Sean Holroyd catered to about three-dozen people who wanted to see Capricornia College up close, which was a significant improvement over last year he said.

"I wanted to tour CQU Rockhampton as an introduction for my children to uni," said one father.
