Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Dr Bunce's mentoring a valued resource naturally 

Congratulations to CQUniversity researcher Dr Ashley Bunce who has been recognised this week (Sept 1) with a Natural Resource Management Mentor Award.

The award was among those announced during the Burnett Mary Regional Group's NRM Awards evening held in Bundaberg, to coincide with the Burnett Mary Partnership Showcase. Dr Ashley Bunce Citation

Dr Bunce's award was earmarked 'for an individual who has contributed to the development of other professionals, youth, and/or the community, in the field of natural resource management'.

The busy CQUniversity researcher is also Deputy Director/Marine Ecology Program Leader for the Centre for Environmental Management, based at Gladstone Campus.

"To be recognised by your own staff and the broader community for providing leadership and strategic direction - for challenging the way we address the significant environmental issues we currently face to achieve successful natural resource management outcomes - is a great honour," Dr Bunce said.

"I feel privileged to have been able to work with some remarkable people in a region that has so many wonderful natural assets."

The Burnett Mary Regional Group for Natural Resource Management Inc (BMRG) is the peak coordinating body for natural resource management in the Burnett Mary region. BMRG is tasked with oversight of such natural resource and environmental management issues as water quality, salinity, and sustainability - sustainable development of the Burnett Mary region's land, vegetation, weeds and pest management, coastal and marine management and water resources.
