Central Queensland University has met a Counsellor from the People's Republic of China Embassy who is a key to mutual recognition of university programs.
The Embassy's Education Office Counsellor, Professor Zhang Shuanggu (centre), and the Second Secretary of the Office, Huang Nianting (right), met the Vice-Chancellor and other senior University staff members at CQU Rockhampton in late June.
Their visit came after an invitation from Quan Li, Chairman of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (Rockhampton Campus branch).
Dean of International Programs at CQU, Professor Debbie Clayton said it was a privilege to host Professor Shuanggu as he had a vital role in working with governments to forge educational cooperation between Australia and China.
The visitor is working on progressing a mutual recognition of degrees agreement between the Australian and Chinese governments. Professor Clayton said CQU had around 1000 Chinese students throughout its network, representing about 14 per cent of the total international student cohort.
The visitors also brought with them some traditional Chinese costumes for use during this year's CQ Multicultural Fair and University Open Day, scheduled for Sunday, August 17.
