CQU Gladstone to host Winter Arts School

Students and teachers from around the Gladstone region are eagerly awaiting the start of Arts Festival Week, Monday June 5 – Friday June 9.

The week-long event will be a celebration of the arts in education and is a combined effort between Education Queensland, local schools and Central Queensland University.

Bachelor of Learning Management lecturer and 1 of the organisers of Arts Festival Week, Helen Holden said the week was a way to focus in on the important role of the arts in education.

“We believe the festival will stimulate discussion and generate further progress in integrating the arts into the school curriculum. It will also support educators with professional development focused on the arts and curriculum planning.

“One of the major events of the week is the CQU Winter Arts School with 3 workshops happening over 2 days.

“Students and community members will combine with working artists for workshops in figure drawing, performance arts and film and multimedia,” said Mrs Holden.

Other events occurring throughout the week include the Gladstone West State Primary School Arts Festival, a series of workshops for classroom teachers on dance, drama, music, art and media, and a festival dinner.
