CQU Sydney International Campus student Yan Yan (pictured) has been invited to join the prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society.
Invitation is based on academic merit and provides students with official recognition of their academic achievement, scholarship opportunities and career assistance. Yan is currently studying the Bachelor of Information Technology and was deemed to be in the top 15 percent of undergraduate students at Central Queensland University.
Yan did not commence her career in Information Technology. She studied a Diploma of International Business in China and worked as a sales representative for an Australian company in China which made bathroom fittings and equipment. This enabled her to develop some English language skills and an interest in Australia. One of Yan’s hobbies is travel and with her work experience in China, it seemed a good opportunity to travel, study and find out more about Australia.
“There are very few girls in China working in the IT industry so it was a challenge to learn something new here in Australia," Yan said.
Yan excels in "logical thinking" and was looking for a career in which she could apply the skills. Her particular interest is programming and she would eventually like to develop a new career in China focussing on programming for girls.
Yan’s immediate aims are to continue into a Masters Degree after she graduates from her BIT. She would also like to become a teacher or lecturer at university in IT or work for a company developing programming.
