Gold Coast students visit Supreme Courts

Undergraduate students from CQU Gold Coast International campus recently were involved in an excursion to the Supreme Courts in Brisbane.
The trip was organised by their law lecturer Hugh Zillman, who is a Barrister in NSW, QLD and the High Court.
Students were privileged enough to spend time with Judge Mullins, who gave them a talk on the courts system and the layout of a typical Queensland court.
The tour allowed students to enter the Courts Library to view documents and court regalia, as well as learning some Queensland law history from the Court Librarian.
They were also lucky enough to gain entrance to the ‘Lucinda’, which is a replica of the boat on which the constitution was drafted.
Students were allowed to sit in on court proceedings, and were thus able to view the workings of our Queensland law system first hand.
Campus Director Paul Harrigan said the tour was a popular success.
“Such tours enable students to add to their theoretical learning with practical first hand experiences,” he said.
“Future tours to the law courts will occur when teaching commitments allow us to do so as it is of a great benefit to our students."
