CQU Emerald's second year Bachelor of Learning Management student Sarah Dennis was crowned Sunflower Festival Charity Queen for 2007.

Proudly supported by the Emerald Campus, Sarah raised over $10,000 for the Central Highlands Science Centre over the past few months. With trivia nights, movie premieres, memorabilia auctions, raffles and alike, Sarah and her support team at CQU were kept very busy raising as much money as possible for much needed resources for the Science Centre.

The crowning took place at the opening of the Sunflower Festival Art Competition at the Emerald Artists Centre. Guest speakers at the evening included Mayor Peter Maguire and Peter Rossberg, Chairman of the Sunflower Committee in Emerald.

Sarah said she was very happy to see the Science Centre benefit from her fundraising efforts.

"By providing opportunities for the young people living in Emerald to have hands-on experiences with scientific resources and experiments, it might trigger interest from an early age and help to develop life-long learning experiences."

Sarah now has the opportunity to go to Canada as a guest at Altona Sunflower Festival in July.
