Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Careers team expands across campuses 

Keen to encourage student participation, CQUniversity has expanded its team of careers and employment officers to encompass campuses in Mackay, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Rockhampton.

The Student Support Centre's Careers and Employment Service has employed Wilma Woortman (Mackay), Jo Kennedy (Bundaberg), Pam Brown (Gladstone) and Kellie Williams (Rockhampton).

Wilma has come from a similar role at CQUniversity Sydney, while Kellie (human resources), Pam (welfare) and Jo (social work) also have relevant experience.

The team will assist prospective and current students (on campus and externally) with career planning to allow them to make realistic decisions about occupation and program options.

The team will also help students with employment preparation.
