Queensland: The New Movie-Making Mecca

While Australian acting talent impresses the world and dominates film industry award ceremonies, Queensland is emerging as a nursery of talent for perhaps the most prolific growth area of film: special effects and animation. (source: IQ Magazine, Department of Innovation and Information Economy). Films such as Inspector Gadget II and Scooby Doo ,shot in Brisbane, are recent examples.

A generation of Queensland-based visual effects, prosthetics, digital entertainment and post-production houses are international leaders in animated fantasy and slick film and television production values.

Now overseas companies are focusing on our innovation and expertise in film, commercials, outdoor broadcasting and interactive entertainment.

CQU's Bachelor of Multimedia Studies is a perfect way to break into Queensland's booming film industry, with the availability of its new Digital Movie Making course.

According to Dr Liz Hills course coordinator, "The film industry is shifting and gone are the days when people worked from the bottom up in-house. Major screen producers are now seeking tertiary credentials, especially with the advent of new technologies. "Special effects, computer generated sequences and animation are being utilized more frequently and our multimedia team is delighted to give students first-hand experience with industry-standard equipment to produce their own films, and ultimately increase their chances of employment." Filming is just one of the many avenues graduates can pursue after their multimedia studies. Computer game and website design, CD ROM production, electronic publishing, sound effects, animation and video clips are other exciting employment prospects open to multimedia graduates.

Mid year intake into the Multimedia degree at Central Queensland University is available now. For more information on Digital Movie Making please contact Dr Liz Hills on: 49 30 9476 or to enrol call in multimedia: 1300 360 444.
