CQU Mackay’s new students packed into the Conservatorium of Music auditorium for the opening ceremony on the first day of Orientation Week.

Community leader and special guest speaker Greg Williamson presented a comical, yet inspirational talk that had students laughing and intrigued as he made references to well-known characters such as Winston Churchill, Atillah the Hun and Walt Disney.

PhotoID:1858 “Individuals have the power to succeed in life through having trust in oneself and not giving up until their goals had been fulfilled. If you can all have faith and persistence, you will succeed with tertiary education”, Mr Williamson said.

Other guest speakers were Minister for Veteran’s Affairs, Hon De-Anne Kelly, MP; State Member for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt, MP; and Councillor Julie Boyd, Mayor of Mackay.

PhotoID:1859 Orientation program highlights included; the discovery trail and the parents and partners welcome held in the evening. A fabulous day was had by all, and informative as well as fun.
