Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Mackay students say 'roll up' for Under Eights Week 

An afternoon of 'Circus Fun' is among activities planned by CQUniversity Mackay students in conjunction with Under Eights Week during May.

Under Eights Week activities are being presented by our Advocacy, Leadership and Change in Early Childhood Education students, in partnership with the Mackay libraries.

- A 'Wombat Stew' story-telling session will be held from 3.30pm-4.30pm at the Gordon White Library on Friday, May 22. Bookings via 4961 9300.

- 'The Magic of a Story' session, including songs and crafts, will be held from 3.30pm-4.30pm on Monday, May 25, at Gordon White Library. Bookings via 4961 9300.

- A 'Circus Fun' session, including a ringmaster and clowns, will be held from 3.30pm-4.30pm at Mackay City Library. Bookings via 4961 9387.

"This is a wonderful partnership that has operated now for some years", said lecturer Beverley Murphy.

Ms Murphy said that, operating under the theme of 'Creativity - Let It Happen', the students will work in small groups to plan and present fun-filled educational activities for children aged 3-8.

"This is a very positive and practical way for our students to take leadership and advocate for young children and their families in our community," she said.
