CQU is hosting one of the 13 winners of the 3rd Queensland Cup English Competition held in Shanghai earlier this year.
Mr Sun Jianping will be in Rockhampton during the Multicultural Fair and has been invited to join the Parade of Nations on the day.
He is 23 years old, currently studying at the Shanghai International Studies University and is an English Education major.
Mr Jianping is staying with a Rockhampton homestay family and will observe lectures and tutorials at CQU during his visit. He will spend his final week in Queensland as a guest of CQU Brisbane International Campus.
CQU Dean of International Programs Professor Debbie Clayton was a judge for the second time this year and was impressed by the calibre of entrants.
"CQU's involvement in the Queensland Cup is part of our commitment to a range of educational activities in China and we are delighted to host Mr Jianping,” Professor Clayton said.
The annual Queensland Cup competition is a joint project between the Queensland Government Trade and Investment Office in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Queensland Government. Most Queensland universities (including CQU), some schools and TAFE provide scholarships for this event.
Contestants were judged on their capacity for interactive dialogue. The prize consists of a three-week visit to Queensland for educational and cultural purposes.
Queensland and Shanghai have a sister state relationship which started about 15 years ago. ENDS For details contact Professor Debbie Clayton 4930 9428.
