Storybook theatre to entertain young audiences

Second-year theatre students will give people attending the CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Rockhampton Open Day a taste of their upcoming Storybook Theatre performances, which will soon tour the Central Highlands and Callide Valley.

PhotoID:2383 Seventeen students from the Bachelor of Performing Arts and Bachelor of Learning Management programs have been creating and rehearsing three storybook theatre plays designed for grade one, two and threes.

CQU’s drama lecturer and director Howard Cassidy said the plays will focus on overcoming fears; finding friends after you’ve moved house; and releasing your imagination.

“The students will perform the plays in Springsure, Moura and Bioela for up to 600 students from 14 schools. A hugely popular feature is that following the plays the children explore the sets and interact with the characters,” Mr Cassidy said.

“Students from Glenmore Primary School will also view the performances as a trial audience before the students take the plays on the road.”.

Mr Cassidy’s annual CQU Theatre-in Education Company tours for infants, primary and secondary students have been supported by the Priority Country Area Program (PCAP) for 25 years.
