CQU academics Professor Paul Hyland and Daryl Alcock visited Longreach last week to provide feedback on research into Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in times of drought in rural areas.
The Institute for Sustainable Regional Development (ISRD) project encompasses the CQ region, including Longreach, Barcaldine, Blackall and Charleville, and is due for completion soon.
According to Mr Alcock, the meeting was well attended, by the Longreach Town Mayor, 3 members of the local commerce group, 2 field officers of the Area Consultative Committee and another local government operative.
"We put forward our broad findings from the project and sought further feedback on results to date," he said.
"We received some useful points from the participants and canvassed some broad initiatives that small non-farm businesses and government might consider in targeting ways to improve support and services to SMEs. All in all it was a successful meeting".
