Sport tourism races to the front

Tourism worldwide is predicted to rise this year with sport tourism having a major impact on statistics.
Faculty of Business & Law’s Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Research), Gayle Jennings, joined with others to prepare a book, 'Sport and Adventure Tourism'. Professor Jennings advised on the subject examining marine tourism for Chapter 5 of the book.
Dr Jennings also examined Marketing and Management Issues and Future Prospects with a case study of Shoalwater Bay in the Great Barrier Reef.
"Sport tourism refers to travel away from home to play sport, watch sport, or to visit a sports attraction, and includes both competitive and non-competitive activities," Dr Jennings explained.
Dr Jennings' research interests are in tourism, sociology and Asian Studies. Specifically, in regard to tourism, Gayle in interested in marine and national park tourism, special interest tourism, rural tourism and the impacts of tourism on host communities and settings.
