Mackay gets a taste of opera
Published on 09 September, 2009
CQUniversity Mackay's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music is presenting England's first ever opera, Dido and Aeneas, from 1pm and 8pm on Friday, September 18.
Written 320 years ago by Henry Purcell, the work will be presented in concert by the Bachelor of Music and some Bachelor of Theatre students.
"It's a great chance to hear the Con's harpsichord and orchestra, and to experience some early music in Mackay," says music lecturer Kim Kirkman.
"The audience will be provided with the complete libretto so they can keep up with the story. The whole work is like a mini-opera in that it takes just one hour."
Tickets will be available at the door for $15 (and $10 concession). For more information please contact Kim on 4940 7814.
