Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU graduate salaries ahead of national average 

The median salaries of CQU graduates working fulltime continue to outshine comparable national and State fulltime salary medians, according to surveys by the Graduate Careers Council of Australia.

The comparisons are expressed by field of education. CQU is ahead in most fields, is equal in one (Education Initial) and only lags in one (Computer Science).

Humanities CQU $38 000 Nat $34 800 State $32 000.

Business Studies CQU $36 500 Nat $35 000 State $35 000.

Accounting CQU $35 500 Nat $35 000 State $32 000.

Education Initial CQU $40 000 Nat $40 000 State $40 000.

Other Engineering CQU $44 000 Nat $41200 State $43 000.

Nursing (Basic) CQU $40 000 Nat $37 000 State $38 000.

Computer Science CQU $37 000 Nat $38 800 State $38 000.

On the whole, CQU performed well with an overall median salary of $40 000 compared with the overall national and state median salary of $38 800.

The comparision was only done for fields where CQU had 10 or more salary counts (number).
