Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Goody 'choice' says Golden Key 

The Golden Key International Honour Society has recognised Rockhampton community leader Margaret Goody, during a ceremony at CQU Rockhampton.

On each campus, honorary members are inducted into Golden Key to unite students with faculty, administrators and community leaders.

The first such honorary member for 2003 is Margaret Goody, chief executive officer of Rockhampton Regional Development.

Ms Goody is also known as founder and former managing director of MG Employment Services. She is now a director of the company, known as MGES.

The former president of Rockhampton Chamber of Commerce has also been involved with the Rockhampton Business Women’s Network and the Business Excellence Awards.

Ms Goody has been a member of the CQ Area Consultative Committee – Rockhampton Sub-Committee and served as Chairman from 2000-2002.

She has served as a trustee on the CQ Performing Arts Trust and was Chairman of the Rockhampton Regional Committee of Crimestoppers Queensland from 1995-2001.

Ms Goody has won many other community awards, including a Centenary Medal.

The Golden Key ceremony in Rockhampton also presented scholarships to two outstanding students.

The first CQU Golden Key Induction Scholarship for 2003 went to Gavin Fee, a Bachelor of Engineering Co-op student with a GPA 7. Gavin is an active member of the CQU Student Association and the Engineering Undergraduate Society. He is also active in the Keppel Bay Sailing Club (where he is a qualified sailing instructor) and is a member of the Australian Yachting Federation.

The second Induction Scholarship for 2003 went to Bachelor of Psychology student Frank Waters.

Frank has a GPA of 6.833 and is a member of the Science Undergraduate Society and CQU Psychology Society. He also undertakes voluntary tutoring to help his fellow students.

Frank provides volunteer computer support for Coowonga Primary School and has been a voluntary assistant at school camps. He is an active supporter for the YWCA youth leadership program and helps with after-school and holiday-care programs.
