CQU will not contest Federal Court action

Professor Rickard indicated that the University had arrived at this decision on the basis of the decision of Senior Deputy President Richards of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) who stated that "the University's decision making appears to have traversed the critical juncture between the prospect of significant change with significant consequences and the actuality of that change".
Rather than contest this decision before a Full Bench of the AIRC, the University accepted Senior Deputy President Richards' recommendation for "the University to undertake to apply a more rigorous approach to consultation before the next stages in its decision making are unfolded...".
Since Senior Deputy President Richards' decision, the University has embarked on even greater levels of consultation with its employees and their representatives which has already resulted in five meetings of the University's Staff Consultative Committee over the last eights weeks and numerous work group consultative meetings across the University.
Professor Rickard stated that "the University remains committed to the structural changes that are needed to reposition the University for the challenges and opportunities of the future and will continue to consult with its employees and their representatives throughout this process".
