Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Congratulations to Community Employment Options 

CQUniversity congratulates Community Employment Options Inc, winner of the Community Contribution of the Year Award during the Rockhampton Regional Development & Ergon Energy Business Excellence Awards 2008 announced last Friday (June 27).

The 'community contribution' category was sponsored by CQUniversity and Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard, who is also a RRDL board Director, presented the award at the gala dinner.

Community Employment Options' Business Development Manager Jeannine Harrington said the business provides a specialist employment service to disadvantaged people.

"We endeavour to affect positive change in their employment prospects, enabling them to develop skills and improve career prospects," she explained.

"The success of our business is built on the passion and commitment of our employees; we draw on their skills and experiences gained from thousands of successful job placements in small, medium and large businesses."

This is the second year CQUniversity has sponsored the community award which encourages good corporate citizenship and environmental and social responsibility, in particular.

CQUniversity graduate Geoff Higgins, from Performance People, developed the Business Excellence Tool specifically for the Awards.  The tool has 6 elements of excellence: strategic planning, competitive advantage, innovation, customer service, staff development, social and environmental responsibility.

Dr Paul Waight, a CQUniversity Lecturer in Management & HRM was on the judging panel.

Kennas Outstanding Business of the Year Award - The Rock Building Society Limited.
