Orientation Week sessions at 11 locations this week

CQUniversity is showcasing its diversity by holding dozens of Orientation activities in 11 locations stretching from Townsville to Melbourne, as well as on-line, catering for all its various categories of students as well as parents and partners...

This year is the first time domestic undergraduate students will be joining international students at CQUniversity's metropolitan campuses, and there will be Orientation sessions tailored for each cohort.

While all students are welcome at general campus sessions and all are encouraged to join the on-line Orientation, there are also specialised sessions for distance students, international students, and indigenous students, and even guidance for high schoolers engaging with the Start Uni Now (SUN) program. Orientation Week runs from February 20.

Orientation coordinator Dr Gemma Mann said the common factor is how "vital" it is for all new students to attend Orientation, or at least to get involved on-line, to ensure they are prepared for the study journey ahead.

She said advanced student mentors have an important role to play in guiding new students at many of the campus sessions.

"Orientation gives students the chance to meet key academics, program advisors and support staff and to find out what is important.

"We don't expect them to be able to do everything in the first week ... just to know what's important for them to find out."

Orientation Week includes social activities, entertainment, tours, program briefings and sessions on academic writing.

Students are encouraged to attend week-day sessions at Bundaberg, Emerald, Gladstone, Mackay, Noosa and Rockhampton. These locations are also hosting Saturday (Feb 25) sessions for distance students unable to attend during the week and in most places there are evening sessions for parents and partners.

There are special sessions for domestic students at Brisbane , Townsville, the Gold Coast , Sydney and Melbourne.

International students at Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast have Orientation activities available across several weeks, with details available for Newly Enrolled Students on International Campuses.
