Melbourne's Rehan 'accounts' for himself in writing competition
Published on 22 June, 2011
CQUniversity's Melbourne Campus recently conducted a writing competition for students in conjunction with Library and Information Week.
Students were asked to write 400 - 500 words of fiction or non-fiction on the library week topic, 'We find stuff'.
Rehan receives his voucher prize for winning the campus writing competition
The winning entry was submitted by Rehan Alam, a talented student who has just completed a Master of Professional Accounting. Rehan is a seasoned writer of essays and poetry and brought a real sense of depth and originality to his entry.
Below is a sample of Rehan's poetry:
When a Soul Speaks to Itself
A few words that I still remember,
A few thoughts that I still surrender,
With every moment that brings a hopeless turn in my life,
And makes me a man with a different character.
That lust, that thirst is enough to bring a change in my own self,
Keeping in mind that this life is given only once,
I plan to go beyond the conventional system,
Thus prepare myself to face anything worse.
So much dreams that I possess seem to get down,
I wonder whether this is what my fate has found,
In that case I'll try to go into an eternal mystery,
And that would presumably make my life seem profound.
With dreams continuously flourishing in my heart,
And the failures that are tearing my soul apart,
My aims are twisted as a faded desire,
I reckon whether I'll be able to turn it into an art.
