English rose now budding performer in Australia

After living in England for almost half her life, Australian-born Angel McMillan came back down under recently to launch her career in performing arts.

Enrolling in CQU’s Bachelor of Performing Arts degree in Rockhampton, the 26-year-old literally stepped off the plane on one day and then into the classroom the next.

PhotoID:2812 “I wanted to pursue the Bachelor of Performing Arts degree at CQU as I wanted to specialise in acting and singing ... and after reading about the degree I decided it fitted my needs perfectly – the dance course was just a bonus,” Angel explained.

Previously employed in a variety of project and administration work, Angel had no real professional, performing experience but wanted to enroll in a quality, performing arts program to gain the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in the industry. She also wanted a "real challenge".

And she got it. The Bachelor of Performing arts degree at CQU is a three-year, industry-focused program specialising in dance, drama, music and the technical aspects of theatre production.

The program gives students the opportunity to work collaboratively with mentors who are established and experienced identities in the performing arts industries.

PhotoID:2813 Students also have the further opportunity to gain practical experience in the performing arts industries through selected industry placements, and apply their developing skills and talents in staging productions in a diverse range of community and multicultural settings, venues and events.

“I am enjoying the program immensely,” Angel said. “On completion I wish to return to London and attack the West End.”
