Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Marketing graduate now TV anchor in Indonesia 

CQU Brisbane business/marketing graduate Tommy Tjokro is now an anchor for Indonesia's Metro TV and recently hosted a gala dinner in Jakarta for alumni of Australian universities.

Mr Tjorko joined Metro TV in 2003 after gaining broadcast experience as a radio host for Brisbane's Radio 4EB.

He anchors various Metro TV programs including 'Metro Siang' and 'Public Corner'. He is also assistant producer for 'News Flash' segments, and has anchored the English-language 'Indonesia This Morning' program.

The German-born broadcaster, who is fluent in in Bahasa Indonesia and English, studied at both CQU Brisbane and QUT while living in Brisbane.

In 2003, Tjokro was named Mr Jakarta (Abang None) by a youth and culture group promoting the city of Jakarta.

The gala dinner he MCed on February 15 - with his Metro TV colleague Dian Krishna, was arranged to celebrate and announce winners of the inaugural Australian Alumni Awards.

Supported by 12 Australian universities, including CQU, the dinner managed to attract over 650 guests and plenty of local media attention.

The Australian Alumni Awards is an initiative of the Australian Education International (AEI) Indonesia.

It is designed to acknowledge the contributions to Indonesia made by tens of thousands of Indonesians who have studied at Australian schools, universities and technical colleges.
