Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

New Deputy Vice Chancellor Appointed 

Central Queensland University (CQU) Professor Kevin Fagg has been appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor, Resources, through July 2005. Professor Fagg has specific responsibilities for finance, budget, information technology personnel services and industrial relations.

PhotoID:136 "Kevin emerged from a very competitive selection process which drew applicants from public sector agencies, business and industry, and universities. He was an outstanding applicant," said Vice Chancellor and President Glenice Hancock.

Professor Fagg started at CQU before it was CQU, when it was the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education in 1967. He was most recently the Dean of the CQU Faculty of Business and Law.

Awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 1996, Professor Fagg is nationally recognised for his services to business and management education. He was instrumental in building the base for CQU's successful International programs, and will continue to develop the international market for CQU while finalising the university's Strategic Plan for Flexible Learning. He is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants in Australia; a Member of the Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand; a Member of the American Accounting Association; a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management; a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries Australia; a Member of the American Finance Association; and a Member of the American Economics Association.

He is one of 82 Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) auditors for Australia. He is also an appointee of the Federal Minister for Education to the General Academic Panel of the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR), serving as the specialist in management, accounting, information systems and general business disciplines.
