Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Indigenous Reconciliation Carnival scheduled over Easter 

Originally delayed by the January floods, the Indigenous Reconciliation Carnival is back on track for Saturday and Sunday of the Easter weekend. 

The Central Queensland Indigenous Development Ltd event is expected to attract hundreds of male and female rugby league players and spectators to the Ian Coombe Oval on CQUniversity Rockhampton from March 30 and March 31.

Teams have nominated from communities throughout Queensland.

According to the Carnival website, this event has been a drug and alcohol free event from the first year and has focused on addressing the key issues that afflict Indigenous communities including substance abuse and domestic violence.

The Carnival is also smoke free and focuses on giving key messages related to health promotion, employment, training and social issues.
