Canegrowers shown field of options

Business & Law faculty staff were among the exhibitors who recently attended the Mackay’s Canegrowers Training and Employment Expo.

Training providers, job network members, labour hire companies, employers and government departments provided information to sugar industry workers considering different employment opportunities.

PhotoID:547 Acting Business & Law Sub-Dean Bruce Milles said the expo provided potential students with the chance to discuss options for starting a new career or to enhance their existing skills.

“There are times in our lives when we need to take stock of where we are and where we want to be in the future,” he said.

“This can often mean enhancing our qualifications and the expo was a good chance to present the wide and diverse range of business qualifications available through CQU.” CQU alumni and Commonwealth Bank agribusiness specialist Bill Oram believed the event provided an ideal opportunity for canegrowers to enhance their skills.

PhotoID:548 “The expo gave canegrowers alternatives they can pursue in conjunction with what they are doing now or a complete alternative for future employment,” he said.

Mr Oram completed a Bachelor of Business in 1999, having previously been a farmer in Baralaba.
