Noosa's Broadbent helps to review national triage process

CQUniversity Nursing academic Marc Broadbent has been invited to participate on a Clinical Reference Group (CRG) for a national project to review the Australian Triage Process.

His role is to provide insights into current challenges with the triage processes and to help group members focus on how the current system of emergency department triage works for clients with a mental illness.

Triage is a hospital emergency department process for sorting injured people based on their need for or likely benefit from immediate medical treatment

The CRG will validate the review findings and test any recommendations for clinical relevance and practicality.

Based at Noosa, Marc's expertise on clients with a mental illness and triage has emerged from his doctoral studies and was considered an important area for contribution.

The Australian Triage Review project was initiated by the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC) and is being overseen by the Health Policy Priorities Principal Committee. NSW Health is coordinating the project.

The review process will include a literature review, a survey of national emergency departments and site visits to 16 emergency departments.
