CQU helps with Central Highlands natural environment projects
Published on 27 July, 2004
Two CQU research projects are helping to sustain the natural environment of the Central Highlands.
One project involves investigation of contracts with landholders which would encourage vegetation corridors.
The other investigates how to pay landholders to manage riparian areas along waterways and rivers.
The projects involve CQU's Associate Professor in Regional Economic Development John Rolfe and Dr Jill Windle and Dr Khorshed Alam at the University's Centre for Environment Management.
Dr Rolfe said the federal government funded 10 major research projects on incentive mechanisms for natural resources and CQU was a partner in two of them.
Local partners in the projects include the Desert Uplands Committee, the Fitzroy Basin Association and the Central Queensland Local Government Association.
