CQCM plays host to enthusiastic secondary school musicians

A group of 57 Tannum Sands State High School musicians attended master classes at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music recently.
As part of an annual four-day tour, the concert band and string ensemble students were given instruction from CQCM lecturers Ian Bofinger and Derrin Kerr.
Tannum Sands deputy principal John Adie said the students enjoyed hearing the wonderful acoustics provided in the CQCM theatre.
“This is the sixth tour we’ve undertaken since the school opened seven years ago. The students really enjoy playing to an audience other than their family,” he said.
“Apart from three performances for Victoria Park State School, the students will perform at a restaurant and Mackay’s Artspace. These kinds of experiences allow the students to perform in real-life situations and gain responses from people who haven’t heard them play before.” CQCM lecturer Ian Bofinger said the enthusiasm and talent shown by the students meant the workshops extended the students’ skills and knowledge in a fun and educational manner.
