Around 50 of Australia's leading algae experts will converge on CQU Rockhampton at the end of July (24-26) to share the latest developments in their field.
Event host Dr Larelle Fabbro, from CQU, has recently returned from the International Conference on Toxic Cyanobacteria in Norway where she learnt of trends in management of toxic algal blooms together with the most recent research findings on a global level. The conference included a World Health Organisation session on key international issues.
Dr Fabbro said the Australian Algal Workshop participants would discuss identification of algae, Australian guidelines and protocols for algal bloom management and the latest research findings when they met in Rockhampton.
They would share information to stay at the forefront of national and international developments in their field.
Participants are coming from all major water boards and water research centres in Australia and New Zealand. They will include experts involved in algal research and environmental monitoring, management of water supplies and recreational areas, risk assessment and human health risk areas.
Dr Fabbro said this was the first time CQU had hosted the national algal event. ENDS
